WCG was established in 1984 by James B. and Dawn D. Wood.
- James B. Wood’s career spans more than 40 years in both public and private sector management. Leaving a successful career in academia, Jim served as Executive Assistant to Governor Patrick J. Lucey (1971-77), managed the governor’s re-election campaign in 1974, served as Deputy Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Administration, founded and ran a cutting-edge private think tank and was a candidate for Governor in 1982. Between 1968 and 1982, Jim was involved in more than 25 electoral campaigns, many of which he managed and nearly all of which were successful. Between 1982 and 1984, Jim concentrated on management consulting and then in 1984 merged his firm with that of WCG’s other founding partner, Dawn D. Wood. Since then he has specialized in strategic communications planning and management, issue management and crisis management for corporate clients, trade and professional associations, and foundations. Jim is a widely respected public relations/public affairs strategist who holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UW–Milwaukee and a doctorate from Duke University.
- Dawn D. Wood is a nationally respected market research specialist with more than 30 years of polling and focus group experience with both public and private sector clients in more than 20 states. Dawn is an honor’s graduate of UW–Madison and trained originally with Peter Hart Research Associates before establishing her own firm in 1978.
- Kennan R. Wood joined WCG in 1996 after serving as Deputy Campaign Manager for then Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Les Aspin (1992); Special Assistant to Secretary of Defense Les Aspin (1993) with special responsibility for military base closings; and Account Executive with Cassidy & Associates where he worked on projects for General Dynamics, Boston University, the Taiwan Research Institute and AT&T. Since joining WCG, Kennan has focused on community relations, permitting, government affairs, information management and brand management for agricultural, mining, financial and energy clients. Kennan is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
- Lynn (Pappas) Wood joined WCG in 1993 after having worked in the Wisconsin State Senate and managing her own event planning firm. Since joining WCG, Lynn has specialized in major event planning and management, media relations, community relations, and civic leadership training for young professionals. Lynn is an honor’s graduate of UW–Madison. She is an active community member who has served in executive and/or committee positions for the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Madison Club, and the Madison Children’s Museum, and is a past president and active member of the Junior League of Madison. Lynn also is a graduate of Leadership Greater Madison.
WCG employs a team of full-time professionals, including seasoned logistics and project managers responsible for quality control, oversight and day-to-day management of specific components of the various campaigns in which the company is involved.
